A programme designed around your body, your goals, and your life

Everything at Dr Rutland Vitality starts with a conversation. Not a form. Not a template. A conversation with a doctor who wants to understand exactly what you want to be able to do, and who builds a plan specifically around that.

How it works

There are three stages to working with DRV. Each one is designed to remove a layer of uncertainty and build your confidence before asking anything of you.

Step 1: Your free discovery call

The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It is a 20 to 30 minute call with Dr Robert Rutland, conducted by phone or video at a time that suits you.

Dr Rutland will ask you:

  • What do you want your body to be able to do in five to ten years?
  • What have you tried before, if anything?
  • What concerns do you have about starting?
  • Are there any health conditions or physical limitations to be aware of?

At the end of the call, he will give you an honest assessment of whether DRV is right for you. If it is, he will explain the starter package and what it involves. There is no pressure and no sales pitch. The call is a clinical conversation that starts with your goals.

Cost: Free
Duration: 20 to 30 minutes
Delivered: By phone or video

Step 2: The Fit for Life Programme

After your discovery call, the next step is the Fit for Life Programme: a structured introduction to training at DRV, delivered at Solo 60 in Newbury with Harry, DRV's personal trainer.

Before your first session, you will have an onboarding call with Dr Rutland. He will confirm the plan he has built for you, walk you through what the sessions involve, and introduce you to Harry. By the time you arrive for your first session, nothing will feel unfamiliar.

What is included:

  • An onboarding call with Dr Robert Rutland to confirm your plan, your goals and any questions you have
  • Four one-to-one training sessions with Harry at Solo 60, Newbury, each built around your personal programme
  • Guidance on what to do between sessions to support your progress
  • A full introduction to what ongoing membership looks like
  • A progress review to celebrate what you have achieved and decide on the next step

Cost: £390
Location: Solo 60, Newbury, Berkshire
By the end of the programme you will know exactly what your body is capable of and what the next step looks like. Almost everyone who completes it wants to continue. You will feel the difference.

Step 3: Ongoing monthly training

At the end of your Fit for Life Programme, you will have a progress review with Dr Rutland and Harry. This is where you review what you have achieved, set new goals, and choose how you would like to continue. There are three options.
One-to-one coaching

The most individual experience DRV offers. You train twice per week with Harry, with complete personal attention in every session. Your programme evolves week by week based on exactly how your body is responding. Ideal for those who prefer to train alone, or who have specific physical requirements that benefit from undivided focus.

Small group training
Train twice per week alongside a maximum of three other DRV members. Every person in the group follows their own personal programme, this is not a class. You benefit from the same expert coaching as one-to-one training, with the added motivation and encouragement of training alongside people at a similar stage of life. Many of our clients find the group one of the most valuable parts of their experience.

Combined coaching
A blend of one-to-one and small group sessions across the month. You get the precision of individual coaching alongside the energy of training with others. For clients who want the best of both, this is the option that delivers it.
Whichever option you choose, Dr Rutland remains available throughout. You are never just handed to a trainer and left to get on with it. You have a doctor on your side for as long as you are with DRV.

Frequency: Two sessions per week
Location: Solo 60, Newbury, Berkshire
Pricing: Discussed at your progress review

Is DRV right for you?

DRV is specifically built for people who:

  • Are in their 60s or 70s and want to feel physically stronger and more capable
  • Have never done resistance training before and want expert guidance from someone they can trust
  • Have concerns about injury, illness, or whether exercise is safe given their health history
  • Have tried gyms or classes before and found them intimidating, irrelevant, or unsustainable
  • Want to be able to do the things they love for longer: gardening, golf, travel, children or grandchildren, daily life
  • Want a private, calm environment with no crowds and no pressure

DRV is not for you if you are looking for a high-intensity training programme, rapid aesthetic results, or the atmosphere of a commercial gym. That is not what we do. What we do, we do better than anyone else in the area.

Your questions, answered honestly

How much does it cost?
You can get started with the Fit for Life Programme for £390. Ongoing monthly training options and pricing are discussed at the end of your starter programme, once Dr Rutland understands how you have responded and what you want to do next.

I'm worried about hurting myself
That concern is the most common thing we hear. And it is a valid one. The answer is that almost nothing in your medical history stops you from doing resistance training safely when it is designed and overseen by someone with Dr Rutland's clinical experience. Every movement in every session is guided, controlled, and appropriate to your current ability. We do not push. We progress.

I'm not a gym person
Good, because DRV is not a gym. It is a private studio where the only person there is you, your trainer, and at most two or three other clients. There is no equipment you do not understand and no one comparing themselves to you.

I've tried before and it never stuck
Because no one asked you what you actually wanted to achieve and built a plan around that. When you have a specific goal, a doctor-designed programme, and a trainer who guides every session, it is a fundamentally different experience.

I'm not sure I'm fit enough to start
This is the most natural concern of all, and also the most common reason people put it off. The truth is that the Fit for Life Programme is designed for exactly where you are right now, not where you think you should be. There is no minimum level of fitness required. Your onboarding call with Dr Rutland exists precisely to understand your current state and build a plan around it. You do not need to get ready to start. Starting is how you get ready.

I'm not sure it will make a difference at my age
The evidence says it will. Resistance training builds muscle, protects bone density, improves balance, and supports cognitive function at any age. And Dr Rutland's own transformation, at 64, after serious illness, is the clearest proof available that age is not the limiting factor. Starting is.

The first step costs nothing

Book a free discovery call with Dr Rutland. He will answer every question you have, give you an honest view of what is possible, and take it from there.

No commitment. No pressure. Just a conversation with a doctor who has done it himself.
